THE CHARTS FESTIVAL COMPETITIONS ARE OPEN TO ALL TASMANIAN ARTISTS
CHARTCHIBALD PORTRAIT PRIZE
Portraits must depict a past or present human identity from the Circular Head region.
If the subject is living, their permission must be obtained before the portrait is submitted.
Each entry must include a short paragraph (50 words or less) about the person.
Work must be suitably framed with ‘D’ rings and hanging wire as per diagram shown.

YOUTH
Entries will be judged Youth art and/or photography work must NOT exceed A3 size and must be
backed on black card. Work that is framed or on canvas or other material may not be accepted.
OPEN
There is no theme for open work however the Smithton & Districts Community Bank Acquisition Prize is
for a Circular Head Landscape.
The Circular Head Council Prize winning artwork will be retained for a period of 6 months and displayed in a prominent place.
Work must be suitably framed with ‘D’ rings and hanging wire as
per diagram shown.
ALL WORK
Work must have been created within the past two years.
Work must not have been shown previously in Tasmania.
No more than 3 entries per artist, per category will be accepted. (Limit of 2 entries per artist for the
CHArtchibald Portrait Prize)
Entries must be the artist’s own work. Where work is the result of a collaborative effort, all contributing
parties must be recognised.
Originals only. No copies of work will be accepted.
ALL works must include a completed entry slip on the back for easy identification.
Work that does not meet these criteria may not be hung.
Judges’ decision will be final and no correspondence will be entered into.
Council is not responsible for transport of artworks to and from gallery. Artists are responsible to organise
their own transport of artworks.
ALL WORK IS ENTERED AT THE ARTISTS OWN RISK
All reasonable care in handling the works submitted will be exercised, but Council will NOT be responsible
for loss of or any damage to any work during the exhibition. Artists are advised to insure their work.
IMPORTANT DATES
Entry forms completed via CHArts website by 5pm Monday 17 August 2026.
Work must be delivered to CHArts pop up gallery (TBC) between 10am and 5pm on Thursday 27 August or Friday 28 August.
Artworks must be picked up from the CHArts pop up gallery (TBC) between 10am and 5pm on Monday 28 September & Tuesday 29 September unless otherwise arranged with Council staff.
